Our wonderful visiting artist, Liesl Hazelton (winner of an amazing scholarship), has left us for Guatemala, Mexico, and other warmer places than NYC.
And even more than missing her winning presence (!!), we miss her new ideas for weaving materials. Through one of her many encounters in NYC, she sifted through garbage to find the perfect computer cables, brought them back to the center and meticulously took them apart to reveal the colorful, thin wires inside the awful grey casing that we all lovingly hide under our desks.
Using these wires for both the warp and weft, she’s seemingly found the next material she needed for her jewelry. This work will be showcased in an upcoming group show, PROGRAMMED, at the Brooklyn Artists Gym. Can’t wait to see what else she does on her journey! Come back to NY, Liesl….
